Translation:
It starts very familiar. Pretty Polly,
traditional from Appalachia. Mandolin, guitar, beautiful 2 part harmony
like it's supposed to sound. Then suddenly, after one and a half minutes,
a heavy electric guitar disturbs the idyllic mood. A little later an
even more rough Jimi Hendrix style guitar solo, with nevertheless still
the mandolin intact, then the vocals return again as if nothing has
happened. A Romance of Ghosts is called the second cd of Bone Orchard.
On the front the group members are represented with heavy winterjackets,
what is also peculiar, because the group comes from Taos, New Mexico.
Beautiful contrasts therefore, although a little elusively. In Frontier,
Frontier, they almost resemble Fairport Convention whereas Sea of Storms
reminds one of the style of Pete Seeger. The elusive part is in the
title's theme- : there are quite a few spirits floating through the
songs: I saw the ghost of Jesse James on Hollywood Boulevard,
I was dancing with the ghost of little Billy Bonney, And
we sang hi-yi-yippie-hi-yi on the "Ranch of Ghosts".
The music of Bone Orchard is however not haunting. Around the very nicely
orchestrated voices of the couple Daniel and Carol Eagle, which are
light-footed, almost indifferent, there are very carefully arranged
instruments. The results are overall, beautifully packed - a must. (René
